POSITION DETAILS

Position Title: CIVIL PIPE LAYER

Reports To (Manager’s Title):

Project Manager

Direct Reports To (Manager’s Title):

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

Responsible for assembling, connecting, and constructing pipe systems for water mains, sanitation sewers and storm drains, ensures ground is prepped and trenches dug out for pipes. Including Survey set out, aligns pipes to grade and seals joints together with PE Butt and or E.F welds. RRJ, Glued and or Cement Joints. Perform tasks involving physical labour at building, excavation, road, highway, and heavy construction projects.

Operate hand and power tools of all types: pipe lasers, compaction equipment, earth tampers, cement mixers, generators, water pumps, demolition saws and breakers, surveying and measuring equipment, and a variety of other equipment and instruments.

May clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set trench shields / shoring to support the sides of excavations, use confined space entry equipment, clean up rubble and debris, and remove asbestos if applicable / licenced.

JOB DUTIES AND TASKS

• Install sewer, water and drainage pipes and fittings, conduits, culverts

• Install and remove temporary fencing, traffic barriers, safety fencing, silt fencing and other safety / environmental controls

• Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, and compact and level earth to grade specifications – using picks, crowbars, shovels, engine powered compaction equipment

• Operate demolition equipment (saws, jackhammers, drills) to cut and break up concrete or pavement

• Construct concrete structures – manholes, chambers, pits, headwalls

• Mix, place, consolidate and finish concrete / mortar for structures, footpaths, driveways, kerb and channel

• Operate dewatering equipment (trash pumps, submersible pumps, etc) to dewater trenches, pits and construction sites

• Erect and disassemble shoring, braces, traffic barriers and other temporary structures

• Remove / demolish existing infrastructure – pipes, pits, manholes

• Removal non-friable asbestos in accordance with WH&S policies and procedures of the company and the relevant state legislation if licenced to do so.

• Undertake labouring duties as directed

• Place, spread, compact and finish asphalt for pavement construction

• Place, spread and level topsoil, grass seed and / or turf

• Drive or operate various vehicles in the QCE fleet

• Load, unload building materials, plant and equipment, and distribute to appropriate locations

• Lubricate, clean and maintain machinery, vehicles, equipment and tools

• Implement traffic & pedestrian control plans and observe safety requirements

• Signal plant and equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement and adjustment of machinery, equipment and materials

• Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards

• Provide assistance to other trades – crew leaders, operators, pipe layers, welders, etc

• Perform any other duties as reasonably directed by your supervisor / management

• To support the civil construction team in the delivery of work packages / projects

• Ensure the standard of work in the field is of high quality and in accordance with work practices and standards required by the Client, the Company and relevant service providers

• Represent QLD Civil Engineering in relation to customer complaints management

• Ensure that all tasks undertaken are performed in a manner consistent with WH&S policies and procedures of the company and the relevant state legislation

• Undertake hazard identification & risk assessment on site as required to ensure a safe working environment

• Act in accordance with relevant Workplace Health & Safety Legislation, Codes of Practice and company procedures

• Act in accordance with relevant Environmental Legislation and company procedures

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED / QUALIFICATIONS

Essential:

• Cert III Civil Construction

• OHS General Induction Card (White/Blue)

• Drivers Licence

• Immunisations (Tetanus, Hep A & B)

• Experience in pipe laying

Desirable:

• HR / MR Drivers licence

• Work in a confined space certification

• Work safely at heights

• Traffic control / management certification

• Apply first aid

• Remove non friable asbestos

• PE Pipe welding (E/F and / or Butt)

• Current drivers’ licence

• General Induction Card - White Card / Blue Card

• Other licences / certificates of competency as specified by management
